Your monetary contributions during “Fast With Us So Others May Eat” will help provide nutritious meals to children throughout the 2012-13 school year.

All gifts will support the BackPacks program of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.  A gift of $200 will provide four meals to one child each weekend during school.

The food bank this fall plans to add nine schools in Forsyth County to the 13 schools that are participating in the BackPacks program, six of which are 100 percent free-lunch schools.

Daisy Rodriguez, director of Childhood Hunger Programs for the food bank, says that the BackPack programs will help reduce the level of hunger among local children.  Recent reports show that one in four children in North Carolina is food insecure.

Children who participate in the program receive a generic black backpack before the weekend and return it the following week. Each backpack includes two cereal bowls, four servings of fruit, two servings of protein and two servings of milk.
